Greater Lehigh Valley Athletics

FAQ

GLVA offers both an NFL flag football and cheer program in the spring and fall.  Responses to our most commonly asked questions are below for both programs.

What is the cost for registration?

The registration fee is $95 per participant.  Early registration and/or late fees may apply.

Where will Greater Lehigh Valley Athletics games be held?

The GLVA will hold games at Chales Chrin Community Center - 4100 Green Pond Rd, Palmer,  PA

Where are practices held?

Practices are held outdoors primarily at the Hanover Township Community Center or Chrin Community Center.  There are instances that we will approve practices at a separate location of your coaches choosing. Practices range from 45 minutes to 1 or 2 hours depending on the age division.

It is our intention to form teams by geography. We will form teams after coach and team mate requests with geography in mind. It is our goal that your team will practice within fifteen minutes of your home, but it is not guaranteed. Games are held in one location.

How many practices per week?

Practice is limited to one time per week while in-season.  This allows for more family time or for a child to have many interests.  Practices can be held up to two times per week leading up to games beginning.

What is included with my registration fee?

Each NFL Flag Football participant will receive an NFL style jersey and flag belt, which is theirs to keep.
Each Cheer participant will receive a t-shirt and pair of pom poms, which is theirs to keep.

Am I required to do any fundraising?

No. There are no fundraising requirements. There are no snack stand duty requirements either. We want families to enjoy watching their children have fun.

Are coach discounts available?

Yes, head coaches will receive a discounted registration rate for their children.  In order to receive this discount, coaches must pass a national background check.

What are the age brackets?

Divisions are determined by the participant's age as of April 1st for the spring and August 1st for the fall:

6 and under coed (6U)

8 and under coed (8U)

10 and under coed (10U)

12 and under coed (12U)

14 and under coed (14U)

What time can I expect my child to play?

Games are held on Sundays.  It is our goal for each age bracket to play at the same time each week.

Who is eligible to participate in a GLVA program (flag football or cheer)?

Anyone who is the appropriate age is welcome.

How long are NFL Flag Football games?

Games are 40 minutes in duration. Time outs and half times are worked into these times.

Can I request my child to be on the same team with a group of friends?

Yes. However, the league reserves the right to modify teams in order to maintain a competitive balance. We will do our best to accommodate your first request.

May I request a coach?

Many of the players in previous seasons request to come back and play for their former coach. Attempts are made to accommodate these requests provided the coach is actually coaching that particular season, and the league determines that it does not create an unfair playing advantage.

Will there be playoffs?

The emphasis in this league is first and foremost fun for all participants. Therefore, to avoid a conflict with this philosophy there are no playoffs in this league. Visit our tournament page for more information.

Does my child need previous football or cheer experience?

No previous experience is required. The pledge of the league is that everyone plays.

What are the uniform requirements?

Flag football: the uniform requirement is for the participant to wear his/her team jersey and pocket-less shorts or pants. Optional NFL Flag shorts, socks and sleeves are available to purchase upon registering. Football gloves are optional.

Cheer: the uniform requirement is for the participant to wear his/her tee shirt, black pants or shorts and have their pom poms. We recommend sneakers and layers for the colder months.

What equipment is required to play?

Flag football: protective mouth guards are required to be worn at all times. Non-metal cleats are also required to ensure appropriate traction.

What are the rules for NFL Flag Football?

Rules for NFL Flag Football can be found at NFLFlag.com

How many players are permitted on one team?

The league targets a maximum number of 12 to ensure quality playing time for everyone.
