COVID-19 Safety Plan

The 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new virus that causes respiratory illness in people and can spread from person-to-person. The virus spreads mainly through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms include fever, cough and/or shortness of breath that appear 2-14 days after exposure.

All participants, volunteers and spectators have an important role to play in stopping the spread of COVID-19 and saving lives.

General Hygiene Practices

GLVA has adopted acute respiratory illness prevention general hygiene practices that should be followed by volunteers and participants while they are on the field and are recommended to be followed at home. A volunteer is defined as any referee, coach, assistant coach, snack stand worker or general helper.

While every possible safety precaution will be taken for the participants, flag football is a sport that will lead to the children coming in close proximity to each other on a regular basis.  The volunteers that will be supervising the games will do everything they can to minimize any contact. However, reasonableness dictates that children participating could become infected without knowing it.

  • Stay home if you are sick, living with someone that is sick or considered at high risk for severe illness.
  • Volunteers, player participants and spectators that develop any symptoms of a respiratory illness during a game or practice are required to leave immediately and inform GLVA director, Eric Neidig.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow. Throw used tissues in the trash and immediately wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.

Supplies

The following supplies are kept at the snack stand and information table on game days to help prevent and control the spread of the virus:

  • Hand sanitizer
  • Disposable disinfecting wipes so volunteers can wipe down commonly used surfaces before each use (tables, cash register)

Personal Protective Equipment

Personal protective equipment including face masks and disposable gloves for snack stand volunteers.

COVID-19 Release

Assumption of the Risk and Waiver of Liability Relating to Coronoavirus/COVID-19

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. As a result, federal, state and local governments and health agencies recommend social distancing.

Greater Lehigh Valley Athletics (GLVA) has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19; however, GLVA cannot guarantee that you or your child(ren) will not become infected with COVID-19. Further, attending GLVA events could increase your risk and your child(ren)’s risk of contracting COVID-19.

By acknowledging this waiver, I understand the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk that my child(ren) and I may be exposed to or infected by attending GLVA events. Such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability and death. I understand that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 at GLVA events may result from the actions, omissions, or negligence of myself and others, including, but not limited to, GVLA directors, board members, volunteers and program participants and their families. I agree that I have read and acknowledge GLVA’s COVID-19 safety plan posted on the website and in the program registration process.

I voluntarily agree to assume all of the foregoing risks and accept sole responsibility for any injury to my child(ren) or myself (including, but not limited to personal injury, disability and death)), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability, or expense, of any kind, that I or my child(ren) may experience or incur in connection with my child(ren)’s attendance at a GLVA event (“Claims”). On my behalf, and on the behalf of my child(ren),  I herby release, covenant not to sue, discharge, and hold harmless GLVA, its directors, agents and representatives, of and from the Claims, including all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs or expenses of any kind arising out of or relating thereto. I understand and agree that this release includes any Claims based on the actions, omissions, or negligence of GLVA, its employees, agents and representatives, whether a COVID-19 infection occurs before, during, or after participation in any GLVA program.
