September 10, 2019: The parking lot outside the Charles Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township on Sunday morning wasn’t quite as packed as the lots near Lincoln Financial Field or MetLife Stadium on an NFL game day, but there was plenty of activity.
While the NFL had its opening Sunday for its 100th season, the Greater Lehigh Valley Athletics (GLVA) had an opening day for its sixth fall flag football season and 11th season overall.
Nearly 400 kids from throughout the Lehigh Valley ranging in age from 4 to 12 and participating on 36 different teams opened up their flag season.
The league is sponsored in part by the NFL through its Play 60 program and sanctioned by USA Football. Games start at 8:30 on six different fields at the Chrin complex and wrap up at about 11:30 so that everyone can get home in time for kickoff of the early NFL games.
